    Welcome Everyone!
How exciting that we are back on the air in Canada and once again sharing the wonderful stories and tantalizing recipes of these treasured grandmothers. I learned so much about cooking and about life (and not to put my hand where I shouldn’t) from these incredible women.

To the fans of Loving Spoonfuls worldwide, thanks for watching and appreciating the warmth, humour and love given to us by our seniors.

Keep cooking and if you can… call your grandmother today!

Mr. Novak please can we have this program aired again and have more new episodes with more grandmothers and grandfathers and of course only with David Gale as host or this show will never be the same. Never enjoyed a cooking show on TV as much as I did this one. It was so educational for we learned about different cultures, the difficulties endured by each family while setting up home in Canada and of course the lovely cuisines – a truly amazing series. When are you releasing the uncut DVD version of the Loving Spoonfuls series for I am waiting to purchase it – I do not know Mr.Novak if you are even going to read this blog but if you do …dont make us wait too long….till then kudos to you and your team.

I love your program and would like to invisage myself as a subject some day…..I saw a program the other day with a nana that read a great piece written by a 3rd grader…..about Grandmothers who were people who had no children of their own etc…….
Is there any chance you could post that? As a grandmother I would love to print it and frame it :0)
    Many thanks

    Hi Allan & David:
My Mother used to tell me about your show and I was too busy working to watch. She was of Slovenian origin and loved every episode. I think she fantasized about being on with you David, making her famous potica or apple strudel. She was a great cook and baker and would have done your show proud (just as all the other beautiful Grandmothers you’ve entertained …. or who have entertained!). I’m so glad you have started to re-air since I’m now retired and have time to watch. I have a PVR so tape them all but I would buy the DVD’s if ever made. My 9 year old Granddaughter asks to watch the taped episodes when she’s visiting.

I saw an episode today of a Jewish Grandma in Winnipeg. I would like to have the recipes from that show. Homemade perogies are not that common here in Nova Scotia. I am previously from Winnipeg and there is nothing like homemade.
    Thanks

Just had to write to say I love everything about Loving Spoonfuls: the music, the graphics, the grannies in their own homes, their families, their personal histories, their recipes, where they shop and especially David Gale. I can’t think of anything currently on-air that promotes multiculturalism and anti-ageism more than this show.

David is wonderful – in his funny and irreverent way he lovingly shows great respect for these amazing women who despite their accomplishments are often overlooked by society at large. Something like this for men would also be great as they sometimes tend to feel invisible once they retire.

Kudos to all involved and thanks for showing us just how good television was meant to be.

Words are inadequate to describe how much I love this show, and David. David has succesfully transcended the barriers of race, religion and nationality more successfully than the UN has even done. He should be an ambassador at large. Oh wait! He already is!

i have watched from the beginning, and this show truly brings the neighbor into the house…i am a little irritated by some of the questions david g. is asking people about their experience with being victimised as children or youth. —–i see, that someone (mr. novak perhaps?) is stirring up emotions…..good or bad?????
is anyone of the production jewish????Lest we forget!

i commenting on episode #49. ms.hilda refered to her breaded chicken as a schnitzel. But a schnitzel is a breaded, perforated cutlet, which the austrians are very well known for….what does it matter…? it matters, because it creates confusion…somebody may try it out on their travels, and receive the wrong order in a restaurant!

Has anyone discussed creating a new season of this show? I know that David Gale is busy, but there are so many talented young actors out there who could host the show.

The concept of learning family recipes from interesting older women is so universal and I love the way that Toronto is depicted. Often I am inspired to try new delis that are featured on the show. The Bloor Deli near Runnymede Station comes to mind.

I would love to work on the show in a behind the scenes (ideally – research capacity), but there is a young actor named Ryan Fields on TVO Kids who would do a great job as the host.

Nothing against Ryan but I’m not ready to be put out to pasture quite yet. And let’s try not buy into this “younger is better” way of thinking. Imagine if we only looked for younger grandmothers on our show.

In case folks want to know I have been busy hosting live events, (the Doras in Toronto) acting in theatre and doing my duty as an executive for ACRTA Toronto – the union representing 13,000 Toronto performers.

We love to hear from our audience.

      Watch for my upcoming website.
      Keep cooking!

I am not a grandmother but love this show! Nice to see a real cooking show with no glitsy glamour. Just down to earth people making their homegrown recipes! I watch it inthe morning before my daughter goes to school. You can almost smell the wonderful aroma’s coming from these kitchens. The host, David Gale is wonderful.

David, I am so happy to have found your show again on the VIVA network! I watched years ago when I was single and worked overnights and loved you and all the grannys. Since then I’ve married my love in Muskoka, moved to Vancouver and had a beautiful baby boy. Roland is almost a year old now and he stops nursing whenever the intro to your show comes on to start dancing. We could watch the reruns forever! Love and Blessings

    Hi! Mr Gale,

I am from Singapore. I guess that the series that I’ve watched here are reruns. Nevertheless, I am impress. I have always enjoy watching you host the show. You are superbly funny and charming. The stories shared by all the guests throughout the series are touching and heartwarming. The recipes are superb and tastes great (though those made using liquors or pork products are often replaced). Nothing beats the taste of home cooked food, especially those cooked by the older generations.

Mr Novak, I do hope that there are more of these series. ;)

    Thank You!!
